Dominique Swain rose to relative notoriety in 1997 after being cast as pre-teen temptress Dolores Haze in Adrian Lyne's 90's remake of Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film 'Lolita'. Swain obtained the controversial part after minor roles in Joseph Ruben's 'The Good Son' and unsuccessful castings for 'An Interview with the Vampire'. Swain was picked from a reported 2500 girls. Director Adrian Lyne said he knew early on that Swain was the one. Since the success of 'Lolita' and her brilliant portrayal of Dolores Haze, Swain has been busy working on various projects and honing her acting skills by acting in a variety of screen genres. Her work has received critical acclaim.

Soon after completing 'Lolita,' Miss Swain was cast in her second major motion picture, John Woo's action/thriller 'Face/Off'. She plays a small but demanding role as the daughter of John Travolta and Joan Allen. Swain's next role was not to be another movie, but a starring role in a Music Video. She can be seen in the 1998 music video release, for Shawn Mullins's hit song 'Lullaby.' In 1999 Dominique starred in a feature film release entitled 'Girl.' She plays the part of Andrea Marr, a straight-A teen who explores the Portland rock scene.

The year 2000 is a busy one for Dominique, with five new films due for release and three films in production. The first of these is 'Intern.' Set in New York, it follows her character, Jocelyn Bennett, a young, under-appreciated intern at the hip magazine, who tries to deal with love, life, fashion, and the nuances of the human condition. In 'The Smokers,' Dominique plays the role of 17-year-old Jefferson Roth. She and two other rebellious teen-age girls at boarding school attempt to turn the tables and even the score in the battle of the sexes, all the while exploring the insecurities and frustrations of high school life and the psyche of America's youth. The three other films in which Dominique appeared/stared include 'Mary Jane's Last Dance,' a murder mystery in which Dominique plays a promiscuous college student who uses her sexual charms to hide a murder, 'Tart,' and 'Happy Campers,' "a comedy, in which college freshmen counselors take charge and spice up the everyday routine of the camp.

Dominique also appeared in three more films 'Mean People Suck,' a comedy about three teenagers who place a bet to see which one is the meanest; 'Briar Patch,' starring Arie Verveen and Dominique Swain opposite Henry Thomas as a petty thief who imprisons his unhappy wife; she in turn schemes to murder him; and 'Dead in the Water,' a thriller about three Americans on a boat trip off the coast of Rio.
